亓百婷(Qibaiting)—
Info
Qi Baiting (Qibai) is an art practicer, currently based in Beijing and London. Her practice mainly focuses on narrative objects and sculptural installations.
Deeply interested in stargazing activities, she considers her works as 'constellations'. By navigating the perception of time and space, she adopts a vertical mode of cosmology to view the present world. Living very close to forests and mountains fosters her resonance with the philosophy of nature and practice within thelandscape.
She completed her MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art. Graduated from Renmin University of China in 2023, her work 'Secret Sounds' was collected by University's Art Museum. At the same year, she was selected in Artist's Independent Column of Sculpture, 28(4) as the youngest artist. She has exhibited her works at Tate Modern (London), Arsenale (Venice), The Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge), Phoenix Center (Beijing).
As an emerging contemporary artist, Qibai aims to bridge the gaps between fragments of everyday experience and the flow of continuous subjectivity consciousness.

November 2022

The spot is filled with water and this impression comes from the landscape of the river. I was inspired by the association of some giant myths of nature. The artworks come from the perception of the weight of natural things and the impression of frozen river. Giant's Toe is able to absorb large amounts of water in order to gain great weight and therefore obtain its state of rest.
